Australians Rip Into US Conservative Commentator Who Called Melbourne's Lockdown A 'Literal Prison'

Aussies were quick to remind DeAnna Lorraine about how many Covid-19 cases America has

An American conservative commentator has hit out against the Victorian state government for placing parts of the state back into lockdown.

After weeks of new coronavirus cases, Premier Daniel Andrews had no choice but to issue Stage 3 Stay At Home Orders for people in the Melbourne metro and Mitchell Shire areas for six weeks.

It's not ideal being plunged back into lockdown, but an increase in Covid-19 cases is unarguably worse.

However, it seems like that sentiment is lost on failed Republican congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine.

She posted a link to a story about the Victorian lockdown and added: "This is literally Prison. Total enslavement. Australians aren't allowed to even leave their own homes for 6 plus weeks? Police put a 'ring of steel' around the city, with 'checkpoints anytime anywhere' to enforce the measures? SICK. Fight this people!"

Why would anyone want to fight a measure designed specifically to stop people from getting sick and potentially dying?

According to her Twitter profile, DeAnna lives in 'Quarantined', California. Interestingly, California yesterday recorded 8,400 new coronavirus cases - a figure which almost equals the entire total of Australia's infections since the pandemic began.

It didn't take long for Aussies to pipe up and try to put the commentator back in her box.

One person wrote: "I live in Melbourne. People are able to work, exercise, attain medical care/supplies and shop for groceries. The 'ring of steel' you mention is to try and protect the regional areas that have not been affected to the extent Melbourne is."

Another said: "Get your facts straight DeAnna. I'm in the lockdown zone but I am able to move about for exercise, buying necessities, medical and care. We take this pandemic seriously, unlike your mad President who has presided over multiple uncontrolled outbreaks, 3.3m cases, 137,000 deaths."

A third added: "Well, except, we actually care about each other? And you see - I don't want people who are vulnerable in my community to die when there's other options, even if there's a bit of pain involved for me. It sucks, but the alternative, what America is living, is worse."

So, thanks for your concern DeAnna but it's clear that residents are going to put up with their lockdown if it means they will keep new infections under control.
