"You don't want to end up like me."

That's the chilling message issued by Chuck Stacey who is now struggling to breathe after getting coronavirus.

Chuck uploaded a video to his Facebook account where he explained how he previously didn't believe coronavirus was real and therefore didn't think he needed to wear personal protective equipment.

"I didn't wear a mask. I should've. I didn't," he said in the video.

"I believed this was just the flu, that it was all going to go away, that it was political. I didn't think a mask would help.

"You don't want to end up like me. I'm having trouble breathing. I may have to be intubated if I get any worse."

Viewers listening to the video can hear how Mr Stacey is going above and beyond to get each breath into his lungs.

He's called on everyone around the world to heed the advice from doctors and health officials and to stay home unless absolutely necessary. He's desperately urged anyone who wants to go out in public to learn from his mistakes and wear a face covering.

"If wearing a mask can reduce your chances of getting this even by five per cent, just wear a mask," he said.

"Do it for your children, your loved ones. Do it for yourself."

On January 2, North America recorded its highest ever daily increase in coronavirus cases with a whopping 291,000 new infections. The US has slowly been increasing its daily case numbers and hospitals are being pushed to breaking point.

According to News Corp, Chuck Stacey was like many people in America who refused to believe what he heard from leading health experts.

Back in May last year, he attacked mask wearers on his Facebook page.

He wrote: "I have to say I have had it with the masks that the employees are being forced to wear," he said.

"It's just another example of the continued over-reaction to this situation...Please stop so when we come to eat we can enjoy our meal without feeling sorry for the employees."
