Arnott's delighted the masses when it unveiled its newest creation: chicken parmigiana flavoured Shapes. What a perfect Australian culinary marriage.

The only problem was that when the first images of the box emerged, it showed the product would be called Chicken Parma Shapes. While that might not spark much to the uninitiated, the difference between parmi and parma is of big debate in Australia.

Some people (let's say they mostly live in Victoria) wholeheartedly reckon the delicious pub favourite should be shortened to 'parma' on the account it's usually made with Pama ham. Then other people believe it's written 'parmi' because it's a shortened version of parmigiana.

That debate will likely go on forever, however Arnott's wants to appease everyone and will be releasing two different versions of the box to make sure everyone is happy.

Photos posted to Reddit show the parma and parmi boxes in all their glory and hopefully this will prevent the huge Parmigiana Wars that we have feared.

Sadly though, it seems like it sparked anorther debate over who is right.

One person wrote: "There are two types of people: those who say 'parma', and those who are wrong."

Another added: "Personally, I'm for pami."

But this tru-blue Aussie shone through with this epic debate-settler: "It's a major part of our national identity to shorten words as much as possible. It's important to open your mouth as little as possible to avoid eating flies and stop kookaburras from literally taking the food from our mouths.

"As such, I feel chicken parm is the logical evolution of our national vernacular, and has the added benefit of being a natural abbreviation of either of the alternatives."

Don't know how we feel about chicken parm but it could be the middle ground to stop the big infighting.

An Arnott's spokesperson just wants everyone to get along.

"We've heard the nation is divided on 'Parmi' vs. 'Parma', and who are we to take one side or the other? That's why, if you grab a box and look closely, we've included both versions on either side of the box!" the spokesperson told news.com.au.

"The Parmi/Parma debate may rage on forever, but our new Shapes flavour is one great taste that Aussies can unite over."
