Monopoly has today launched a limited edition 'Australian Community Relief' board.

Players can snap up areas like Broken Hill and Batemans Bay to honour the regional Aussie communities that have been impacted by disasters of late.

There are 22 local communities from around the nation, including Coober Pedy Kalgoorlie, Mildura, Bundaberg and Blue Mountains, that will be featured in the new custom Monopoly game board, which will raise much needed funds for those areas.

The special edition will see locally themed squares replace Mayfair and Park Lane and include customised 'Community Chest' and 'Chance' playing cards, making the entire game a true blu Aussie experience.

As well as showcasing some of the regions that were severely impacted in 2020, the game has also been created to highlight the community spirit and strength of these stunning locations.

The best part of purchasing this Aussie-themed board is that $5 from every board game sold and $2 from every Monopoly Puzzle sold will be donated directly to The Australian Red Cross to further assist these areas and people in need around Australia.

Charlotte Waalkens from Winning Moves Australia, the game's maker, said: "We wanted to provide Australians with something positive in the challenging year that is 2020.

"The communities chosen have all gone through a tough time for one reason or another, as everyone has.

"We thought they deserved something special to remind everyone how incredible they are."

"Choosing which locations to put on the board was unbelievably difficult. We wanted to showcase places above and beyond the usual cities or hotspots."

Darriea Turley, mayor of NSW town Broken Hill said of the initiative: "Broken Hill basically has been in drought since the early 2000s. People will remember the great dust storms coming through our town.

"So we've not only had a pandemic, we're in drought. For all of us (it's about) getting a bit of hope. To be on a Monopoly board is fantastic."

Launching across the country on Wednesday November 25th, the games will be available at Big W, Sanity, QBD, Dymocks, Toys R Us, The Iconic, Catch, Meeple, Hobbyco, Mr Toys, The Nile, The Gamesmen, Gameology, Gameshop and Gamesworld.
