People all across Australia will have their own special way of making the perfect Milo.

But Nestlé has decided to trial all the usual and bizarre methods for creating the delicious beverage and has settled on the best of the best.

Tasmanian bloke Sergei won the Milo Gold Cup and his winning entry stems from a 'long-standing family tradition'.

It's not as simple as whacking in some of the brown stuff, a bit of milk and stirring. No, no, no, that would be too easy.

Sergei's method involves packing three heaped teaspoons of MILO into a mountain at the bottom of a mug, before pouring precisely 200ml milk over the back of a spoon into the mug.

He claims this unique technique 'creates a milky top appearance in the mug'.

While some people would find that rank because it's not consistent, Sergei says it leaves 'chunky Milo pieces throughout the drink to discover and enjoy'.

Hey, whatever floats your boat.

Clearly it has impressed the bigwigs at Nestlé, who have given him a year's supply of Milo to enjoy every single day.

He's also been given the coveted Milo Cup Trophy and have his winning creation immortalised on a limited-edition run of the iconic tin.

Nestlé Dairy Business Manager Anna Stewart said: "Milo lovers opened our eyes to the many ways they like to enjoy the delicious and much-loved drink. It was hard to pick a winner, but we're excited to have finally settled the debate on how to make the best Milo.

"We love that it had become a game for Sergei and his family in their household and that his daughter even started rating his technique!

"We hope Aussies will be keen to try to recreate it at home and love it as much as the judges do."

People are encouraged to give it a whirl and see for themselves whether it stacks up against their own recipe.

A study was conducted last year into people's Milo habits and Nestlé made some interesting discoveries.

After polling nearly 90,000 people, it's clear that the majority of Aussies prefer their Milo cold.

The votes aren't surprising when you look at where they were cast.

A whopping 100 percent of people polled in the Northern Territory like their Milo cold, which is understandable given the temperature in the area. In Queensland, 71 percent of respondents prefer it cold, followed by South Australia (67%), New South Wales (66%), Victoria (61%), Western Australia (60%) and Tasmania (54%).
