An Australian restaurant has hit out against a group who reserved a table of six last month and never turned up.

Many establishments and venues have been restricted to 10 people at any given time, meaning a no-show of this size would be a considerable loss of revenue.

But Sydney restaurant Beppi's decided to make sure people knew just how devastating this act was.

Taking to Facebook, the Italian eatery, which is one of the oldest in Australia, wrote: "It has been great to hear the sounds of diners back in our restaurant.

"One disappointment has been the few customers that book and do not show up. Last night we had a total of table of 6 did not show. 60% of our revenue GONE.

"No call to cancel, phone just goes to message bank.

"Disgraceful behaviour.

"We are temped to post the name and number of the customer however thought best not. We have made the conscious decision not to take credit card details or deposits and trust our customers.

"The overwhelming majority of our customers have been fantastic. The selfish few spoil it for others & inflict further financial pain of an industry already decimated by the pandemic."

The post was supported by many who thought the idea of a no-show as businesses were trying to emerge from the coronavirus pandemic was disgraceful.

Loads of people supported Beppi's in naming and shaming the people who booked the reservation as well.

One person wrote: "Absolutely disgusting behaviour! I believe it is our duty to support local businesses. Particularly those so hard hit by the Pandemic like Beppi's. I have been supporting my local restaurants and business as much as I can!"

Another added: "Name and shame, in these times it's not appropriate to no show!"

Restaurants, cafes and pubs will be allowed to welcome up to 50 people in New South Wales from today. Venues will still have to abide by the one person every four-square metres rule, so some establishments might be restricted to less than 50.
