Australia Will Start Rolling Out International Vaccine Passports From October

Aussies will get them printed and in digital form to prove to overseas authorities that you've been jabbed for Covid-19.

Australian authorities will soon roll out international vaccine passports to citizens around the country.

They will be in digital form on your smartphone as well as printed on paper, and they will allow Aussie travellers to prove to overseas authorities they've been vaccinated against Covid-19.

The passports are set to be available to select citizens from October, however don't take that as an indication that we could soon head abroad.

The government hasn't given any indication about when Aussies could soon pack their bags and see the world and reconnect with their loved ones.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has flagged that states could soon allow citizens to travel overseas if they reach the all-important 80 per cent vaccinated rate.

At the moment, only 39 per cent of the whole country is fully vaccinated.

Mr Morrison said they are now looking at whether Aussies could quarantine at home for the required two weeks instead of fork out thousands for a managed hotel room.

The Prime Minister said this week: "Home quarantine is where we go next. And the length of that quarantine also was what we're looking at."

He added on Sky News Australia: "Home quarantine needs to be at scale and needs to be tested and ready, and that's what's happening now, and that's what I'll continue to push to open the country up because that's what enables the national plan.

"I'll be following up last Friday's [national cabinet] meeting with the premiers, writing them looking to get some timetables about their introduction of home quarantine, but also following up this issue of the integration of our technology that can enable fully vaccinated theatres, fully vaccinated events."

Aussie authorities are hopeful they can have the digital vaccine passport managed in a QR code or embedded into your passport chip.

Officials in the NSW state government are rolling out a trial to see if they can incorporate the vaccination status on the NSW Health app so people can check in with a QR code and prove they've had the jab at the same time.

While the federal government is staying tight lipped on when we could head overseas, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said that could happen as early as November.

She said in a press conference last month: "When we hit the 80 per cent double-dose number, which we anticipate will be in November, NSW looks forward to having our citizens enjoy international travel and NSW looks forward to stepping up and welcoming thousands of Australians home who have been waiting to come home for a long time."

Finger's crossed that could come to fruition.
