Nearly every pub in Australia will serve some type of schnitzel.

Whether it's an ordinary yet beautiful schnitty or it's out to win some type of award with the toppings, they are delicious gifts from the Gods.

But the very best of the lot have been officially unveiled.

If you're in South Australia, you're in luck because Adelaide's Schnithouse has been crowned the winner.

Wotif.com compiled a list of all the places that are best rated for their schnitzel and this joint on Rundle Street came out on top because they have 'over 20 varieties on the menu'. Can you imagine getting to choose from nearly two dozen different types of schnitzel?

If you're not in South Australia, fear not, there are some very reputable places in other states that have cracked the top 10 list.

Coming in second and third, respectively, are Mrs Parma's in Melbourne and the Shamrock Hotel in Alexandra, Victoria.

Restaurants in New South Wales featured prominently in the top ten, including Una's in Sydney's Darlinghurst (fourth), the Seaview Tavern in Woolgoolga (fifth), the North Wollongong Hotel, Wollongong (sixth), and the Settlers Inn in Port Macquarie (eighth).

The Tingalpa Hotel (seventh) was Queensland's only entry, and the Palais Hotel and the OG Hotel in South Australia came in ninth and tenth places, respectively.

Interestingly, there is a lot of thought that goes into crowning who has the best schnitty.

People reported that the 'crispiness of the crumb' and the 'crunch of the schnitty' were big factors when determining whether the meal got a thumbs up or down.

Obviously the 'bigger the better' played a role in decision making and people also reported that a good portion and quality chips are essential factors. Interestingly, people also couldn't decide whether they preferred to have their chips underneath or on the side.

So there you have it, the best schnitzels in the country. While we won't be able to go on a road trip to test them all for a while, we can just try and imagine what it's like to carve them up and whack the small chunks of culinary gold into our mouths.
