A five-year-old Australian boy has walked hundreds of metres for help after discovering both his parents were dead.

Police were called to a property in Townsville, Queensland, on reports of a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, they discovered a 46-year-old woman and 48-year-old man were dead inside the Gulliver property.

The triple-zero call came when the young boy walked to a nearby suburb to raise the alarm.

According to 7News, police aren't looking for any suspects in the deaths of the mum and dad and are reportedly investigating it as a murder-suicide.

Detective Inspector David Miles told reporters about the boy's actions: "He's attended an address and provided some information, very limited, that resulted in other people going and identifying that two people were deceased in the other house.

"At this stage, we haven't ruled out the involvement of another party. But all indications would appear, at this stage, it involved the two parties who were present."

Police have spent yesterday canvassing the home to see if there are any clues about how this happened.

Detective Inspector Miles has given his condolences to the boy and his extended family, especially with this event happening so close to Christmas.

Any death is a tragedy," Miles said. "We have two people deceased. We have a young person without parents and obviously, he's been subjected to an extremely tragic set of circumstances.

"Any event like this is quite disheartening and concerning for everyone who attends. For the family it affects, the tragedy is quite significant, particularly at this time of the year."
