CNN presenter Chris Cuomo has been suspended 'indefinitely' for helping his brother Andrew amid sexual misconduct allegations.

The American TV news channel made the decision after court documents were filed by New York's attorney general.

A statement from CNN said: "These documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother's efforts than we previously knew.

"As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation."

As the claims were being aired, Chris admitted he gave his brother Andrew some advice on how to approach the delicate situation, according to the ABC, from a public relations standpoint.

At the time, CNN said it 'appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second' when Chris revealed he wouldn't be speaking about the allegations against Andrew during his programme.

However, the evidence that has been tabled by the New York attorney general has raised 'serious questions' about the TV presenter's conduct.

The Guardian said the files show how Chris 'used media contacts to glean information about women accusing his brother...of sexual harassment - then sought to make his sibling aware of forthcoming coverage'.

There were text messages that allegedly revealed Chris contacted media sources to sniff out more information about the claims against Andrew, as well as the women who were making them.

He's accused of then sending all the information he found to his brother's team.

In response to the New York AG's documents that were submitted to court, CNN said they will need to conduct a 'thorough review' of what's been said.

"The thousands of pages of additional transcripts and exhibits that were released today by the NY Attorney General deserve a thorough review and consideration," CNN spokesman Matt Dornic said, according to CNBC.

"We will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity about their significance as they relate to CNN over the next several days."

Andrew Cuomo was hit with a criminal complaint on October 29 that charged him with a sex offence.
