Conor McGregor Successfully Comes Out Of Surgery After Breaking Leg At UFC264

Conor McGregor has successfully come out of surgery after brutally breaking his leg at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier.

The Irishman has updated his fans on social media, writing on Twitter: "Just out of the surgery room guys! Surgery went excellent! Feeling tremendous! 6 weeks on crutch and we build back! Let's go! God bless."

McGregor was rushed to hospital after a sickening injury at Las Vegas when he was fighting Poirier in the final match of his trilogy saga.

He unleashed on his lightweight opponent with a flurry of leg kicks in the first round, but after seeming to hear McGregor's leg crack during one exchange, Poirier took McGregor to the ground.

Both fighters returned to their feet, before both swung at each other and missed. Then, McGregor stepped back before his leg collapsed beneath him, sparking speculation he might have fractured a bone.

He managed to somehow keep going until the end of the round, when the fight was stopped.

Poirier called McGregor a 'dirtbag' during his post-fight interview and also accused the 32-year-old of cheating, saying he pushed his fingers inside his gloves as they were grappling. Poirier said he was trying to tell ref Herb Dean about it.

The BBC reports Poirier said: "He fractured it in one of the checks at the beginning of the fight and he broke it on a punch, for sure. I felt something, he was kicking me hard.

"There's no coming back from that. He was saying he was going to murder me, that I'd leave here in a coffin. You don't talk like that about people. I hope he gets home safe to his beautiful family."

Of course, Conor couldn't let that one go to the keeper and he unloaded in a war of words against Dustin.

"I was boxing the bleeding head off him, kicking the bleeding legs off him, the usual s***e, tried to go the distance," McGregor said.

"This is not over, if I have to take this outside it's all outside, I don't give a b*****s. Your wife is in my DMs, I'll chat to you later on. Hit me back up I'll chat to you later on, I'll be at the after party at the Wynn night club. You look in bits you little h*e."

The loss takes McGregor to 1-3 in the cage since 2016, which is when he left UFC and moved to boxing, where he took on Floyd Mayweather.

With the victory, Poirier has earned the chance to recapture the lightweight title he held on an interim basis in 2019 prior to a loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
