Politicians on both sides of the political spectrum have issued a stunning call for Donald Trump to be removed from office early.

Despite the President having two weeks left in the Oval Office, he is facing passionate calls to step aside following the violence in Washington D.C.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi wants the 25th Amendment to be invoked, which is an article in the Constitution that allows for a sitting President to be removed if they are deemed unfit for office.

Addressing the press at the Capitol the day after Trump's supporters stormed the building, Pelosi said: "Yesterday, the President of the United States incited an armed insurrection against America.

"While it is only 13 days left, any day can be a horror show."

Pelosi is calling on Vice President Mike Pence to pull the pin on Trump's time as leader as he and a 'majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress' are allowed to invoke the 25th.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer added: "Each and every one of those days is a threat to democracy. The quickest and most effective way to remove this president from office is to invoke the 25th Amendment."

But it wasn't just Democrats who were issuing the call.

Republican Adam Kinzinger said it was time for Trump's reign to come to an end and it must be done before Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20.

The five-term politician wrote on Twitter: "Yesterday, it became evident that not only has the president abdicated his duty to protect the people and the people's house, he invoked and inflamed passions that only gave fuel to the insurrection that we saw here.

"All indications are that the president has become unmoored, not just from his duty or even his oath but reality, itself. It is for this reason that I call on the vice president and members of the Cabinet to ensure the next few weeks are safe for the American people and that we have a sane captain of the ship."

Yesterday's violence saw four people die, including a woman who was shot and three more people who suffered from 'medical emergencies'.

President Trump has been accused of fanning the flames that led to the violence and uprising, and when called upon to disavow and placate those committing the acts, he asked for 'peace' but repeated the same baseless claims of electoral fraud that brought the issue to a head yesterday.

In a video uploaded to social media, which was subsequently deleted by YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, the President said he 'loved' the extremists and urged them to go home.

He's since been banned indefinitely from Facebook and Instagram for repeated violations and copped a temporary ban on Twitter.
