Dominic Perrottet has been voted to lead the New South Wales government.

Liberal MPs gathered this morning (October 5) to vote on who they wanted to be at the helm of the party in the wake of Gladys Berejiklian resigning ahead of a corruption investigation.

The Treasurer received 39 votes in favour of him becoming Premier while Planning Minister Rob Stokes copped just five votes.

Stuart Ayres has been moved into the Jobs Minister and Matt Kean will be Treasurer under this new leadership.

Premier Perrottet praised Ms Berejiklian for her service and leadership during an incredible 18 months through the Covid-19 pandemic and Black Summer bushfires.

At a press conference over the weekend, he said: "There is no doubt that NSW is a much better place today because of the tireless dedication of our Premier [Gladys Berejiklian].

"During the last 18 months I, as her deputy and as Treasurer worked very closely with her as we navigated through droughts, through fires and through this pandemic, and NSW (is) stronger today because of her tireless, servant leadership to the people of NSW."

Ms Berejiklian resigned last week after the Independent Commission Against Corruption announced an investigation into the politician.

The probe will be looking into whether she engaged in conduct that involved a breach of public trust between 2012 to 2018, where she's alleged to have provided community grants to the electorate of her then-boyfriend and then-NSW MP Daryl Maguire.

Ms Berejiklian believes she has done nothing improper and said she will fight the allegations when ICAC kicks off its case later this month.

In the wake of Ms Berejiklian leaving, former Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Transport Minister Andrew Constance have also announced their resignations.
