Staff at an Aussie bottle-o have been shocked to see the culprit behind a bunch of broken bottles.

While you might think it could have been a careless customer, or someone trying to stash some bottles in their backpack, the scene was caused by something entirely different.

Kyogle bottle shop floor, worker Brian Watson-Bell, discovered a prickly animal that behind the whole commotion.

He's told the ABC: "I thought there had to be a critter in here somewhere - there was just too much damage for a rat. But there he was, an echidna, and he wasn't little.

"He had gone through a couple of bottles of vodka and a bottle of chocolate Baileys, he was sleeping it off for sure.

"I think if he had gone for a crawl he would have been stumbling a bit, I don't think he was fit to drive."

After causing such a scene, the echidna was discovered passed out, seemingly pleased all the mess it had caused.

Staff at the regional New South Wales bottle shop wasted no time in calling animal welfare authorities to come pick up the culprit.

Animals making their way into establishments in Australia isn't something that's totally uncommon.

In fact, they can become so unruly that workers have to ban them from entering.

The Yaraka Hotel in the Queensland's central west is welcoming to pretty much anyone who walks through its doors, so much so that staff have allowed two emus to learn how to climb stairs inside the building.

However, the two started to pick up a habit of rifling through bins, going behind the bar, and stealing people's stuff, such as food and even car keys.

Plus they have been making a godawful mess whenever they go to the bathroom in the pub.

As a result, they've been told they're not welcome anymore.

Pub owner Gerry Gimblett says Kevin and Carol are the last two emus from a flock of nine, telling AAP: "The rest were all hit by cars and Kevin and Carol are the last two left.

"They are beautiful, very friendly - a bit too friendly if anything! They make a bit of a mess."

The pub has now erected a rope across the pub entrance, which seems to be pretty good at keeping Kevin and Carol at bay... for now.

There's also a sign saying: "Emus have been banned from this establishment for bad behaviour. Please let yourself in through the emu barrier then reconnect please!"
