'F**ked' And 'S**t' Top The List For Words To Describe 2020

'F**ked' And 'S**t' Top The List For Words To Describe 2020

In a year where you've heard 'unprecedented' way too much, there are two other words that have been said way more.

In a year where you have probably heard the word 'unprecedented' way too many times, there's no denying 2020 has been a trying and wild time.

We've had devastating and deadly bushfires in Australia, a pandemic that has wiped out thousands of people and economies all over the world, we've lost celebrities in tragic circumstances like Kobe Bryant and Chadwick Boseman, we've had a US election like no other, we've had a resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, we've had the UK formally leave the European Union...we could go on.

So, when you think of all that and more, what's the word that first strikes?

Well, the Guardian has done a poll and it seems like 'unprecedented' isn't at the top of that list.

Unsurprisingly, the word 's***' has beaten out every conceivable word in the English language as the perfect descriptor for the year 2020.

Following that is 'f***ed', which is also pretty apt.

After those two bangers were words that you would have thought about later like 'exhausting', 'challenging', 'unprecedented' and 'clusterf***'.

Looking towards the future, people have ranked 'better' and 'hopeful' as the top two words they can describe 2021. Honestly, when the bar is set so low, all you can do is be hopeful we've hit rock bottom with 2021.

While the coronavirus vaccine has been dished out to people in America and the UK, we're still far away from seeing the back end of the pandemic.

Even then, it will still be many months until the economy bounces back and gets a boost by international tourism. We can only hope that people listen to safety and health advice and we'll be able to welcome 2021 with open arms.
