Flat Earthers are claiming footage from David Blaine's latest Ascension stunt proves that the earth is flat.

The American illusionist flew 24,000 feet above the Arizona desert on Wednesday (September 2) while clinging to a rig of around 50 helium balloons.

The stunt, which was said to have been '10 years in the making', was originally due to take place in Blaine's hometown of New York City on August 31, but due to windy conditions in The Big Apple it was moved to Page, Arizona.

The performer, who rose to fame as a magician who was known for his levitation tricks, was this time truly flying as he took to the skies like a scene from the movie Up.

And, as an extra twist, the 47-year-old's Ascension stunt was live streamed.

As a result, we got to experience the bizarre and death defying stunt from his perspective thanks to a camera rig attached to his body.

While Blaine was pictured floating through the air, some Flat Earthers piped up that the vision from his chest-cam proved Earth is flat, and not round.

Taking to the YouTube comments, users spoke out while Blaine's footage was streaming.

"EARTH IS FLAT," said one user.

While others disagreed.

"CURLY EARTH," one commented, while another said "Earth is round."

"Studies place the threshold altitude for seeing Earth's curvature at about 35,000 feet," claimed another viewer.

Which would make sense of why this wasn't visible in Blaine's footage - as he only reached 24,000 feet.

Whether the science will stop the conspiracy theorists is another matter.

While most of us can't believe Flat Earthers are being serious in their beliefs, they're adamant that we are in fact all being lied to and that satellite photos of Earth as a sphere are merely fabrications of a 'round Earth conspiracy' orchestrated by NASA and other government agencies.

Blaine's flight took around an hour. To descend, he followed a series of instructions and let go of the balloons, plummeting thousands of feet before activating his parachute and coasting back to the ground.
