World-famous lager Foster's that some people believe is the 'quintessential Aussie beer' is making a return to shelves Down Under.

In a media statement, Carlton & United Breweries said Australian customers were looking 'for a return to trusted iconic brands', and, as a result, want to inject some nostalgia into a trip to the bottle shop.

CUB will be boosting production of Foster's Classic by 300 per cent in the coming months, from 500,000 litres a year to a whopping 2.5 million litres.

Foster's

Foster's will be released in a 30-can slab for $54, which CUB called 'value-for-money', saying that it will then be competitive with its rivals like XXXX Gold ($49 for 30 cans), West End Draught ($52) and even CUB's Victoria Bitter ($55).

If you're wondering why the lager has long being linked to Australia, it's very likely due to its introduction to the UK back in 1971 and the subsequent ads featuring actor Paul Hogan in the '80s.

It was further popularised by The Simpson's episode Bart vs Australia, where the Aussie 'Prime Minister' was seen drinking it naked on a floaty, and later offered to Homer in an Aussie bar.'

Last year, Foster's was even named the second most popular lager brand in the UK after Carlsberg, though it had previously failed to make that kind on impact on the Australian market.

CUB is hoping to change that, with head of classic brands Hayden Turner saying: "The COVID-19 pandemic has led Aussies to embrace nostalgia and yearn for simpler times.

"Foster's is an iconic brand Australians know and trust so it is really no surprise drinkers have told us they want more. We're confident Foster's can continue to grow again and develop a strong following like Melbourne Bitter and Reschs have done recently."

Cheers to that.
