Gabby Petito's loved ones have gathered to farewell the young influencer after she was killed.

The 22-year-old's body was discovered in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming after her family reported her missing on September 11.

Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, had been driving around national parks in the US in their van, all while documenting their trip on social media.

An autopsy of the YouTuber's body listed her death as a homicide however the report hasn't yet released her cause of death.

The public was invited to her funeral service at Moloney's Funeral Home in Holbrook, New York, near her hometown of Long Island on Sunday (September 26).

Her father, Joseph Petito, expressed how he was inspired at seeing his daughter grow into a confident and fearless young woman.

"I don't want you guys to be sad. Gabby didn't live that way. If you knew Gabby, she was always a pretty happy girl," he said.

"Her nature was always to smile and treat everybody kind. She always made people feel welcome.

"When you leave here today, be inspired by what she brought to the table, because the entire planet knows this woman's name now.

"She always wanted to go out and do stuff, whether it was scuba diving with my uncle, or myself or hiking the Appalachian trail, surfing sand dunes in Colorado. She had some wild experiences that I could only wish that I could experience.

"To see that type of joy that brought her, and the stones it took to do that at such a young age. I would like you to take a look at these videos and I want you to be inspired by them."

But Joseph also issued a message to people around the world who have watched his daughter's case.

"If there is a relationship that you're in that might not be the best thing for you, leave it now. Take care of yourself first," he said.

Police in Moab, Utah, released body camera footage from August 12 showing an encounter they had with Petito and Laundrie after a traffic stop.

A sobbing Petito could be heard describing an argument with Laundrie that she says became physical.

Whilst the police officers did not detain the pair, they did order them to spend the night separately, with Petito remaining in the van and Laundrie booking into a hotel.

Brian disappeared just before the police named him as a person of interest in the case, and just two days before her remains were found in Spread Creek after a tip-off from other 'van life' bloggers who had filmed their vehicle.

The FBI has issued a federal arrest warrant for the 23-year-old on suspicion he fraudulently used bank cards after Gabby's death.

Gabby's parents have created the The Gabby Petition Foundation, which will provide resources and guidance on bringing their children home.
