An eight-year-old girl has been expelled from her Christian school after revealing to a female classmate that she had a crush on her.

Local media reports Chloe was attending Rejoice Christian Schools in Oklahoma, however has been told to leave.

According to the young girl's mum, Delanie Shelton, the vice principal of the school sat Chloe down and told her about the teachings from the Bible.

Delanie says her daughter was told 'the Bible says you can only marry a man and have children with a man'.

The eight-year-old replied thinking it would be 'OK for girls to like girls', however the vice principal was 'shocked' and 'appalled' by the confession.

When her mum called the school, the second-in-charge asked whether she thought it was okay for her daughter to have a same-sex attraction and she said she sees 'no issue with it'.

She added to KOKI: "They ripped my kids out of the only school they've ever really known away from their teachers and friends they've had over the past four years over something my daughter probably doesn't know or fully understand."

Chloe was taken home that day and school administrators told her not to come back. Delanie's five-year-old son has also been expelled.

The school said their beliefs don't align with the Shelton family and that was the reason behind the move.

She told CNN: "I was so blindsided. I was angry, hurt, betrayed, sad... so many different emotions. I just couldn't believe it.

"I asked him to have a sit down meeting to discuss it and process it better and he refused, saying that 'nothing more needed to be discussed.'"

Chloe has been crying ever since and even asked her mum whether God still loves her.

The school is refusing to comment on Chloe or her brother's situation.

Superintendent Joel Pepin said: "Due to privacy and other factors, it is the school's policy to refrain from public comments regarding any particular student or family."

There is precedence in the decision to expel the two students as the school's handbook condemns 'any form of sexual immorality', which includes revealing oneself to be 'homosexual' or 'bisexual'.

Relationships of any kind, gay or straight, are forbidden and public displays of affection are banned.

Since news of Chloe's expulsion went viral around America, she's been showered in praise from people all across the country.

Delanie said: "She's feeling so loved and supported now because of so many amazing people that have reached out to us," she said. "She's excited for a fresh start at a new school."
