A Good Samaritan has saved a man's life after he fell off a platform as a train was approaching.

It's not clear how the wheelchair-bound passenger fell onto the tracks, however time was not on his side.

The incident happened at Union Square in New York City in the early afternoon of August 4.

One person jumped onto the tracks knowing full-well that the train was only seconds away from arriving at the platform.

He quickly threw the man's wheelchair up onto the platform and then assisted the bloke in reaching the higher ground.

Other passengers grabbed the man's arms and hauled him to safety, before the Good Samaritan then leapt onto the platform above.

The camera then panned to where the train was coming and, sure enough, it arrived on time and was certainly coming in at speed.

A video of the incredible moment has gone viral on social media and everyone is praising the hell out of the bloke for jumping into action.

One person said: "This man should be given a medal for his bravery."

Another added: "Balls of steel. True heroism."
