Jetstar has brought back its 'Return For Free' flight sale where, yep you guessed it, the return flight costs absolutely nothing.

The airline is celebrating another journey around the sun and is giving customers the chance to score a cheap seat.

You can fly from Sydney to Melbourne for $55 and not have to give away any more of your hard earned cash to get back up north.

The sale kicked off just after midnight this morning (Wednesday May 5) and will run until all the 340,000 seats are sold out or until 11:59pm tomorrow (May 6).

The airline said in a statement: "For added peace of mind, Jetstar has introduced greater flexibility if there are any changes to flights due to border changes.

"If customers are affected by changes to border restrictions, they will always be able to get a credit voucher to the full value of their booking."

The flights you'll be able to score will run from early October.

They'll include Sydney to Launceston from $89, Adelaide to Hobart for as little as $102, Sydney to Ballina for $72 and Melbourne to the Whitsundays from $157.

There are flights all across Australia like Margaret River, the Gold Coast, Cairns, Hervey Bay and Hamilton Island.

It comes off the back of Jetstar engaging in a price war with regional airline Rex for cheap flights from Sydney to Melbourne.

Rex announced it would cost just $39 to fly north or south one-way, with deputy chairman John Sharp hoping the sale would boost tourism numbers.

"Peak tourism bodies reported yesterday that flagship stimulus programs from state and federal governments have not benefited Melbourne and Sydney," he said.

"I believe this initiative will single-handedly revive a moribund travel and hospitality industry in the two cities."

But Jetstar couldn't help but do the same to keep things interesting and instead launched $30 one-way flights between the two cities.

Virgin has also jumped on the deal and will be flogging seats for the same as Rex.

You'll be able to take advantage of these cheap deals until the end of August for Jetstar, August 28 for Rex and December 15 for Virgin.
