President-elect Joe Biden will get the coronavirus vaccine on live television next week.

The 78-year-old said during an event that he wants to show America that they shouldn't be afraid of the jab that has been diligently tested.

"I don't want to get ahead of the line but I want to make sure that we demonstrate to the American people that it is safe to take," he said. "When I do it, I'll do it publicly, so you can all witness my getting it done."

Donald Trump will also get the vaccine when White House doctors determine it's best. Vice President Mike Pence, who is also leader of the White House coronavirus taskforce, will also be one of the highest ranking people to get the jab quickly.

There has been a huge campaign to get prominent people seen taking the vaccine on live television to quell fears about the vaccine.

Three former US Presidents say they are willing to get the coronavirus vaccine to boost public confidence.

Mr Obama said in a chat with SiriusXM that if America's top infectious diseases expert tells him the vaccine is safe then he will be happy to take it.

"People like Anthony Fauci, who I know, and I've worked with, I trust completely," Obama said. "So, if Anthony Fauci tells me this vaccine is safe, and can vaccinate, you know, immunise you from getting Covid, absolutely, I'm going to take it.

"I promise you that when it's been made for people who are less at risk, I will be taking it. I may end up taking it on TV or having it filmed, just so that people know that I trust this science, and what I don't trust is getting Covid."

That sentiment has been backed up by his predecessor, George W Bush, who wants Americans to not be afraid of the vaccine.

The 43rd President of the United States has already reached out to authorities to see how he can help.

Bush's chief of staff, Freddy Ford, told CNN: "A few weeks ago President Bush asked me to let Dr. Fauci and [the White House coronavirus response coordinator] Dr. Birx know that, when the time is right, he wants to do what he can to help encourage his fellow citizens to get vaccinated.

"First, the vaccines need to be deemed safe and administered to the priority populations. Then, President Bush will get in line for his, and will gladly do so on camera."

Bush's predecessor, Bill Clinton, has indicated his willingness to join his former Presidents to get the jab.

"President Clinton will definitely take a vaccine as soon as available to him, based on the priorities determined by public health officials. And he will do it in a public setting if it will help urge all Americans to do the same," Clinton's press secretary, Angel Urena said to CNN.
