A man and baby have tragically died after falling 36 metres off a tourist attraction north of Adelaide.

The Whispering Wall Dam attracts thousands of people every year because of its unique acoustics.

However, the site in the Barossa Valley was filled with tragedy yesterday after the man and newborn tumbled from the top of the dam.

Bystanders called emergency services when they witnessed the pair fall over the railing and plummet several metres below in Williamstown.

When paramedics arrived, they found the man's body and the baby was unresponsive. Sadly, the newborn couldn't be revived.

South Australia Police have released a statement explaining how they attended the scene.

"Police and emergency services were called to the Whispering Wall after witnesses reported seeing a man and infant go over the edge of the wall and fall to the ground," police said.

"When patrols arrived, they found a deceased man and an infant who was unresponsive.

"Paramedics worked on the infant but sadly, she died at the scene."

A report will be prepared for the coroner and police aren't treating the incident as suspicious, nor are they looking for suspects.

The Whispering Wall has been an attraction site for years as people flock to try out its unique ability to spread sound.

Due to the curvature of the dam and where it's located, people can stand on opposite ends of the wall and whisper something and have it heard crystal clear by the other person.
