A man has appeared in court after being charged with a string of offences related to burglary and theft.

Among the builder's rap sheet, he was accused of stealing $1,775 worth of sex toys from Peaches and Cream in Auckland last month.

Hamish George Crego-Bourne, 31, appeared via audio-visual link in the Rotorua District Court earlier this week, however his lawyer, Douglas Hall, didn't enter into any pleas, according to the New Zealand Herald.

He's instead requested a bail application hearing for today (Thursday June 17) and a court hearing later in the month.

In addition to the alleged sex toy theft, Crego-Bourne is accused of stealing a 2018 Yamaha Deluxe jet ski and trailer as well as a 2004 Mitsubishi Triton ute between May 16 and May 17.

Police also charged him with four burglary charges that related to the alleged entering of a residential property, two Whitianga buildings and a property at Tairua.

Crego-Bourne has also been charged with breaching his court bail last month on May 13 in Rotorua as well as drunk driving. He was allegedly caught with a reading of 85 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath while on a zero-alcohol licence.

Judge Greg Holliser-Jones has remanded the defendant in custody before he appears in court later today.

The theft of sex toys isn't totally uncommon. Earlier this year, two men were seen using a metal pole to smash the window of the Airport West Sexyland on Australia Day.

The robbery occurred just before 2.45am and they made quick work of the store once they were inside.

Detectives determined they ran off with around $10,000 worth of vibrators and a $4,500 life-sized sex doll named Kitty.

Standing at 165 centimetres, Kitty comes in a range of heights, bust sizes, waist sizes, as well as hip and weight sizes. She can also have her eye colour, hair, skin tone and nail polish customisable.

The Sexyland website says about Kitty: "Each Life Like sex doll is developed from superior materials for soft, ultra realistic feeling skin and breasts that are truly amazing to touch. On the inside is a titanium alloy skeleton enabling her to bend into almost any position."

While the life-sized sex doll is highly sought-after, it seems like the thieves weren't as careful as they should have been in the robbery.

Police say poor Kitty's head was detached in the quick getaway and it was later found in the carpark.

They add the thieves took off in a white Ford Ranger ute with stolen number plates.
