Man Inserted A Live 20cm Eel Into His Rectum To Cure His Dodgy Stomach

It swam through his colon and bit through his abdomen. It was still alive when doctors removed it.

A man in China has tried to fix his painful stomach problem with an unlikely and dangerous source.

The bloke inserted a 20 centimetre long eel up his bum because he thought that would release some tension in his tummy, according to the Global Times.

The unnamed patient had been struggling with constipation for an undisclosed period of time and thought it would be a good idea to put a live animal inside his body to sort it out.

He'd heard it was a 'folk remedy' however he quickly realised how rumours can cause a world of issues.

The lengthy creature swam up his colon and punctured through his abdomen, which would have been extremely painful.

However, the man was 'too shy' and embarrassed to go to hospital to sort out the situation.

It eventually became too much to bare and he took himself to a nearly health facility.

After explaining what he did, doctors performed surgery on the man and were shocked to find the eel was still alive when they removed it.

The surgeons told him the situation could have been much worse if he didn't present himself to hospital. They said if bacteria was allowed to go from the large intestine into his abdomen then he might have suffered hemolysis and died.

While it might sound ridiculous that someone would do such a thing, it's not totally uncommon.

A man in his 50s also nearly died from doing the same thing last year, but this time with a 40-centimetre long eel.

He was also trying to cure constipation but wound up at Dongguan Huangjiang Hospital, in Guangdong, China, after developing abdominal pains from the eel.

"We suspected that there was a foreign object in his abdominal cavity from a CT scan," Dr Li told Chinese media. "But we couldn't tell where it came from."

"It had completely entered the abdominal cavity and already been dead," Di Li reported.

"Because it was a live eel, the possibility of death is very high if the surgery was not done timely."

This creature was dead by the time doctor's removed it from the man's body. It wasn't until a few days after the surgery that the man confessed to putting it up there voluntarily.
