Shocking reports have emerged about yesterday's (September 22) protest in Melbourne.

Hundreds gathered to march through the CBD for the third day in a row, however there were fewer construction workers campaigning for their rights and more people from fringe groups latching onto the movement.

Authorities say anti-lockdown, anti-vaxx and far-right individuals have hijacked the mass demonstrations, which started out as tradies protesting against mandatory Covid-19 vaccines for the industry.

Wednesday's protest was different to the previous two days as this one ended on the steps of Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance.

After a lengthy standoff with police, protestors eventually fled when riot officers fired rubber bullets and tear gas into the crowd.

Shrine of Remembrance CEO Dean Lee was appalled to witness the scenes that unfolded yesterday and said the protestors completely disrespected the sacred war memorial.

"It was an absolute slight against the honoured memory of our servicemen and women that protesters would come to Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance to pursue their own selfish interests was a disgusting and dreadful thing," he told Sunrise.

"There was broken glass, there was rubbish, there was even urination on parts of this sacred monument, which is absolutely appalling."

He added: "The Shrine memorial behind me represents the suffering of an entire community during a time of global crisis.

"We're facing a global crisis now but this is not one that should divide us as Australians, it's one that should bring us together."

But that's not the only horrifying thing that happened as protestors marched through the city.

Vaccine workers were reportedly 'spat on' by demonstrators at Melbourne's Town Hall.

Premier Daniel Andrews said there were reports of healthcare workers being verbally and physically abused because they were giving out Covid-19 vaccines to people who had booked appointments.

"That's not called for, these people are doing the very best of work - they're vaccinating people for heaven's sake," he said.

"Why would you - as I'm told - be spitting on people that are doing that sort of work.

"That's ugly and uncalled for. If those people can be identified it is my understanding Victoria Police will deal with them."

Two vaccination hubs have been shut down as a result of the disgusting acts 'to ensure client and staff safety'.

Victoria Police arrested 215 people from yesterday's rally and two officers suffered head injuries after bottles were thrown at them.
