Mexican Government Hires Lucha Libre Wrestlers To Throw Chairs At 'People Not Wearing Face Masks'

A local Mexican government has enlisted the help of Lucha Libre wrestlers to encourage people to wear face masks while out in public.

The public service stunt has been revealed in Irapuato, a Mexican city found in the central region of the state of Guanajuato.

Several huge wrestlers with iconic luchador wrestling attire have been spotted handing out surgical blue masks to everyone they see not heeding the public health warnings amid the coronavirus pandemic.

However, it seems Lepra, Moco, Gargajo, Costal Clown, and García Jr. escalate their encouragement in larger public spaces to get people to wear face masks.

Video has emerged of the wrestlers targeting one individual by throwing a chair at him.

Thankfully it seems like they aren't tossing WWE-style wrestling chairs at any person they deem is a health hazard and simply use the same bloke in different areas.

Surely if you saw someone getting decked with a chair by a burly and intimidating looking wrestler you would chuck your face mask on very fast.

The Irapuato government has posted on Twitter: "They arrive at the Plaza Del Comercio Popular to invite tenants and users to correctly use their face masks.

"In the style of fighters, Lepra invites citizens to use their mask to take care of themselves and to be able to break the chain of Covid19 infections. Don't risk finding them, better put it on.

"We all want the Covid19 infections to end and each one, in their own way, seeks to raise public awareness that the use of a mask will help us improve the situation. Heed the advice of Lepra. Don't wait for it to happen to you."

Since the viral social media campaign was launched, people's opinions on it have been mixed.

One person has commented: "Violence, beatings, intimidation. I think they did not think well. Bravo Irapuato government that bad."

Another added: "This is how it should have been since the beginning. The response to the problem needs to be proportionate. If the people are stupid, well, f*** em!"

That's not the only thing Lucha Libre wrestlers have been doing to protect the public during the pandemic.

A wrestler by the name of Hijo del Soberano has been sewing Mexican wrestling-style face masks for anyone who wants one.

Crippled by the lockdown, the wrestler decided to go into face masks to not only keep food on the table but also keep the community safe.

He told ESPN: "Last week we had a very difficult time and my wife says to me: 'Why don't we make face masks?'

"So we made some, but using the material we had for the costumes. We use the lycra and the fabrics that are used in the wrestling suit makings. They have double stitching, fabric reinforcement
