America was devastated when a local news channel highlighted one boy's desire to be adopted by a family.

Jordan has been in foster care since he was three and was desperate to have someone to call mum or dad.

When the reporter asked the now nine-year-old where he would like to travel if it could be anywhere in the world, the boy said his answer was simple: "An adoption party for a home."

It was a similar answer when he was asked what his three wishes would be if he met a genie: "To have a family, and family, family. Those are the only wishes I have."

Jordan was in foster care with his brother, however Braison was adopted by a family last year, leaving the nine-year-old without his best mate.

He said he wants to be a police officer when he grows up because he loves the idea of protecting and serving the community. However before that, he'd love to be adopted and spend time with his family.

In the Fox 59 story, Jordan said: "I would just like to have a family to call mom and dad, or just mom, or just dad. I don't really care.

"The reason it's important is because so I could have some people to talk to anytime I need to. I hope one of y'all pick me."

The story was broadcast locally last month and it's since gone viral across the country. Not only has Jordan won himself a load of new fans and supporters, but he could also soon have a new home.

Jordan's permanency planning worker, Christopher Marlowe, says there have been more than 5,000 applications to adopt him over the past few weeks. Some calls have come from New Jersey, Florida, Illinois, and Kentucky.

Mr Marlowe told Fox 59: "I'm in the process of reading through those profiles to select a family to try to move forward with.

"We've had a couple of families that expressed interest in adoption but after we did disclosures, the families decided that it wasn't the right fit for them or their family at this time, so we've had some difficulty finding placement for him.

"I'm really excited about this and very hopeful this is going to be the breakthrough we needed to find this kid a home."

Mr Marlowe has also been in contact with Jordan's brother's new adoptive family, who say they're open to the idea of the two boys getting to spend more time together so that they don't lose contact.
