A National Rugby League player has spoken out about an incident that has caused great upset in his life.

Penrith Panthers and Queensland State of Origin star Kurt Capewell has admitted to participating in a pornographic film with a man.

He said screenshots of the film have resurfaced and have been sent to various group messages and he wanted to make a statement to set the record straight.

Capewell told his teammates in a letter obtained by News Corp that he was young and broke, and chose to do some modelling for a company to make cash on the side. He signed a consent form for the photo shoot and he was offered more money to take his clothes off and pose.

He goes on to say that he was 'talked into' engaging in a sexual act with another person who was positioned on the other side of a wall. He wasn't aware that person was a man.

The 27-year-old wrote the letter to his teammates, which said: "Bit hard to put the full story into words but I was broke and doing some modelling, then I got talked into doing a porno.

"Unknown to me but it turned out they put a bloke on the other side of the wall.

"Now it's resurfacing in group chats and I wanted to let you all know so you could hear it from me and so you all know the full story. I'm terribly embarrassed and ashamed even though it happened when I was so young.

"It's something I've been dealing with for the past eight years behind closed doors and I know you will all have my back and stand by me moving forward."

The NRL player hasn't kept this story from his long-term girlfriend and the people closest to him, however he wanted to get on top of the story before it broke.

Capewell tried to escalate the situation by getting the police involved after a person tried to sell images from the film. According to 7News, investigations closed without any action.

He's issued a warning to young people about being careful with their decisions.

"My message to young people is to be really careful when being offered money for photo shoots," he said.

"It's not the person I am today. I've had to learn the hard way. I hope others don't have to go through what I have endured."
