New South Wales Police have provided an update on one of their Mounted Unit horses that was involved in patrolling Sydney's anti-lockdown protest.

Tobruk was one of many horse cops that was out in force on Saturday (July 24).

Thousands marched towards the CBD to rally against the lockdown measures that have been in place for several weeks and are designed to keep the city safe from coronavirus.

Some parts of the protest turned violent and police worked to the best of their abilities to contain the madness.

Several officers were injured in the line of duty and Tobruk was also involved in an altercation with at least one protestor.

The NSW Mounted Police Unit wrote on Facebook yesterday (July 25) saying: "Our beautiful brave Tobruk safe and uninjured after his awful encounter today.

"Thank you for your calls to the unit expressing your concern regarding the horses and officers after today's protest in the city. All of our horses and officers are fine and no injuries were sustained.

"The 12 horses that were there were amazing and did us all proud. Thank you again for your support."

Two men have been charged with allegedly striking a police horse during the protest.

A 33-year-old was accused of affray, joining or continuing in an unlawful assembly, committing an act of cruelty upon an animal and not complying with a noticed direction in relation to Covid-19.

A 36-year-old was charged with assaulting an officer in execution of duty, committing an act of cruelty upon an animal and not complying with a noticed direction in relation to Covid-19.

Police have launched Strike Force Seasoned and are asking people for information to help track down the identities of those who also joined the weekend's rally.

CrimeStoppers has been inundated with more than 5,500 tip offs and they've already identified 200 protestors.

At least 90 PINs have since been issued to people for breaching the public health orders.

More than 60 people have already been arrested and 35 people have been charged with a bunch of offences.

One of those charged has been accused of assaulting a police officer, while others are alleged to have resisted an officer in execution of duty or wilfully obstruct officer in execution of duty.

Deputy Police Commissioner Gary Worboys said: "To those to people whose behaviour yesterday in and around Sydney could only be described as violent, filthy behaviour, risky behaviour.

Police will continue to investigate. The community spoke and the community has said they will not tolerate it and we ask people to upload those files, to upload any information that they have to Crime Stoppers."
