Wikipedia is a treasure trove of information that loads of people around the world depend on to get their information.

However, because it can be edited by users, it can be prone to trolling every now and then.

A tracker page on Twitter has identified someone using a Northern Territory government IP address has gone on an editing spree on the crowd-sourced information site.

One edit in particular was changing McDonald's name on the site to McBumholes - a classic and iconic switch up that requires a certain level of intelligence and prowess.

Another golden change was altering Hungry Jack's to 'Pee pee poo poo yee haw im very funny c**k a doode do'. Again, breathtakingly simple, yet elegant and sophisticated.

The editor also went after KFC in their rampage and it didn't take long before all the alterations were corrected and life resumed as normal.

Naturally, everyone will want to know who in the Northern Territory government has the time to write childish names on Wikipedia. Surely a government salary and position doesn't warrant a person sitting on the internet just to troll.

The answer will probably disappoint.

As pointed out by the same Twitter bot that noticed the McBumhole change, 'based on past behaviour, edits showing from "Northern Territory Government" likely include edits from computers at schools'.

The culprit, ladies and gentlemen, is likely a student at a school, which is a disappointing plot twist because it would have been hilarious to discover someone with a government job was spending their days coming up with hilarious new names for fast food companies.

But editing a Wikipedia page can have dire consequences.

An American teenage had to apologise for editing 27,000 Wikipedia articles on the Scots-language version of the site using his terrible attempt at a Scottish accent.

Going by the username of AmaryllisGardner on Wikipedia, the teen started when he was just 12 years old and thought it would be funny. He admitted that once he started on his quest to retype a boatload of articles, he found himself unable to stop.

He managed to change around 49 percent of all articles on the Scots-language Wikipedia, which is just incredible. After being found out, Wikipedia user AmaryllisGardner apologised and said he doesn't mind if moderators changed all the hard work he had done.

"Honestly, I don't mind if you revert all of my edits, delete my articles, and ban me from the wiki for good," he wrote.

"I've already found out that my 'contributions' have angered countless people, and to me that's all the devastation I can be given, after years of my thinking I was doing good.

"I was only a 12-year-old kid when I started, and sometimes when you start something young, you can't see that the habit you've developed is unhealthy and unhelpful as you get older.

"I don't care about defending myself, I only want to stop being harassed on my social medias."

Wikipedia has also issued a statement saying it was reviewing the page 'for large scale language inaccuracies'.
