Three former US Presidents say they are willing to get the coronavirus vaccine on live TV to boost public confidence in getting the jab.

There has been some trepidation from people around the world about the safety of the Covid-19 jab, with some raising concerns about how quickly it has been manufactured and approved.

However, Barack Obama, George W Bush and Bill Clinton are all willing to stake their claim that it is safe by doing their vaccination publicly.

Mr Obama said in a chat with SiriusXM that if America's top infectious diseases expert tells him the vaccine is safe then he will be happy to take it.

"People like Anthony Fauci, who I know, and I've worked with, I trust completely," Obama said. "So, if Anthony Fauci tells me this vaccine is safe, and can vaccinate, you know, immunise you from getting Covid, absolutely, I'm going to take it.

"I promise you that when it's been made for people who are less at risk, I will be taking it. I may end up taking it on TV or having it filmed, just so that people know that I trust this science, and what I don't trust is getting Covid."

That sentiment has been backed up by his predecessor, George W Bush, who wants Americans to not be afraid of the vaccine.

The 43rd President of the United States has already reached out to authorities to see how he can help.

Bush's chief of staff, Freddy Ford, told CNN: "A few weeks ago President Bush asked me to let Dr. Fauci and [the White House coronavirus response coordinator] Dr. Birx know that, when the time is right, he wants to do what he can to help encourage his fellow citizens to get vaccinated.

"First, the vaccines need to be deemed safe and administered to the priority populations. Then, President Bush will get in line for his, and will gladly do so on camera."

Even Bush's predecessor, Bill Clinton, has indicated his willingness to join his former Presidents to get the jab.

"President Clinton will definitely take a vaccine as soon as available to him, based on the priorities determined by public health officials. And he will do it in a public setting if it will help urge all Americans to do the same," Clinton's press secretary, Angel Urena said to CNN.

Recently there have been significant strides forwards in testing coronavirus vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna and Oxford/AstraZeneca.

Some people have said they are wary of taking the vaccine, despite all of the vaccine candidates undergoing serious, lengthy, large and thorough tests on tens of thousands of people. Some have been found to be up to 95 per cent effective in eliminating the virus.
