Piers Morgan has left Good Morning Britain after a fiery 48 hours.

A statement from network ITV said: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

The British TV host came under fire for his views on the interview between Meghan Markle and Oprah, with Morgan declaring he didn't believe a single word the Duchess of Sussex said.

When the show went to air the following day, his GMB colleague Alex Beresford challenged him on his views and told him he needed to be more sympathetic to people when they talk about mental health.

Talking about the interview and the couple's decision to leave the UK to start a new life in the US, Beresford said: "They have had an overwhelming amount of negative press.

"I watched the programme yesterday and yes they had some great press around the wedding, but what press is going to trash someone's special day?

"There was bad press around the engagement, before the engagement and everything that has followed has since has been incredibly damaging, clearly, to Meghan's mental health and also to Harry."

Speaking to Morgan, he added: "I understand you don't like Meghan Markle, you've made it so clear a number of times on this programme and I understand that you had a personal relationship with Meghan Markle and she cut you off.

"But she's entitled to cut you off if she wants to - has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has, yet you continue to trash her."

Morgan clearly didn't like what was being said and stormed off the show. He insisted the walk off during a live broadcast wasn't a stunt and he was truly annoyed with what was being said.
