US Vice President Mike Pence is facing calls to invoke the 25th Amendment.
The article in the American Constitution allows a sitting President to be removed from office if they are deemed to be unable to carry out their duties as the nation's leader.
Donald Trump has been blamed for inciting hundreds of people to rally at the Capitol building in Washington D.C., which led to many storming the building and wreaking havoc inside.

One woman was shot dead and authorities found two explosive devices.
The President has had social media posts deleted and has been blocked by Twitter and Facebook from posting after violating their policies.
As a result, Mike Pence is being asked to step up and pull the plug on Trump's time as President, despite him only having less than two weeks left in power.
Attorney General for the District of Columbia Karl Racine told CNN: "Whether you like Vice President Pence or not, the fact is he is more fit for office... we need a commander-in-chief that will fulfill his constitutional responsibilities.

"I would ask the vice president, please go the next step. Do your constitutional duty. Protect America, stand up for democracy, and invoke the 25th Amendment.
"That requires Vice President Pence to move and get a majority of the Cabinet or majority of the Congress to immediately remove the President because he so clearly is not fit for office," said Racine, earlier in the conversation."
That call was backed up by Congresswoman Lucy McBath, who wrote on Twitter: "Tonight, I am asking Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and begin the process of removing President Trump from office.
"The eyes of the world are upon us, and the President's incitement of violence, his inducement of chaos, and his inability to faithfully 'discharge the powers and duties of his office' make it clear. The President has refused to protect our democracy and must be removed."

Members of the House Judiciary Committee have also released a statement on the matter.
"Even in his video announcement this afternoon, President Trump revealed that he is not mentally sound and is still unable to process and accept the results of the 2020 election," the members said.
"President Trump's willingness to incite violence and social unrest to overturn the election results by force clearly meet this standard.
"So too are his recent Tweets, which Twitter has since deleted, saying the election was 'stolen' and that today's riots 'are the things and events that happen'."
