Over the years, researchers have been amazed to see different species learn the ability to paint.

Whether that's with their trunks, paws, or mouths, there are loads of animals out there that have whipped up an instant classic.

Well, you can add raccoons to that list of smart species after an adorable one called Piper showed off her new portraits.

She, along with her adopted brothers Tito and Cheeto, have regularly been highlighting their masterpieces on their joint Instagram account, which has a casual 142,000 followers.

The trio get up to all sorts of mischief as they live in a home in South Carolina with owners Mitchell and Sarah Thyme.

The couple are actually selling the paintings for between $75 to $150 if you wanted to have the next million dollar artwork hanging above your mantlepiece.

Animal behaviourist Suzanne MacDonald, from York University, Toronto, told Bored Panda that raccoons are pretty well placed to be able to paint because of their adorable little paws.

But that science isn't just related to raccoons.

"You can train any animal to paint, really. All you need is patience and a steady supply of food rewards," she said.

However, the researcher said that it's unlikely that the animals will ever appreciate the art they create. I would like to imagine a bunch of raccoons perusing the aisle of The Louvre and surveying all the best masterpieces with a keen eye.

But if you don't want to fork out your hard-earned cash on some cute artworks then you can always just admire them from afar on Instagram.
