Quarantine-Free Holidays To New Zealand Could Begin Next Month

Dust off that suitcase...

New Zealand authorities are reportedly cooking up a contract with Australia that could start quarantine-free holidays as early as next month.

9News reports a paper is being assessed in a NZ Cabinet committee to see what the final form of the trans-Tasman bubble will look like.

Once the Cabinet is able to agree on the format, it could be able to make a decision on whether to give it the green light by next week.

At the earliest, we could be able to hop on a flight by mid-April.

There would still be red and green zones for different airports.

Green zones mean free and open travel, however red zones are places outside the travel bubble indicating the passenger came from somewhere else in the world to transit or for quarantine.

NZ Deputy PM Grant Robertson said the possibility of quarantine-free holidays on both sides of the Tasman Seas will hopefully come soon.

"I don't think we're too far off being able to create the New Zealand version to match up with the Australian version," he said.

All staff who work on border issues should be vaccinated against the coronavirus by the end of March, which has strengthened the case for the bubble to come together.

The one thing Kiwi authorities have highlighted is that outbreaks are still clearly a threat in both countries.

Travellers who want to hop across the ditch will have to embark on their trip with the caution that border restrictions could be reintroduced at the drop of a hat.

These people will have to be ready to either set up shop in the other country until the outbreak dies down or hop on a flight at the 11th hour.

These border closures can happen when a plane is mid-flight, which obviously creates issues around what happens with those travellers.

It's reported New Zealand authorities are trying to iron out those problems before announcing whether Cabinet will sign off on the bubble.
