A Queensland nurse has tested positive for the coronavirus despite being vaccinated.

Authorities have revealed there have been an addition three new cases of Covid-19 in the state since yesterday's update.

Two are people in the community and one person is in hotel quarantine.

However, health authorities have revealed one of the new infections belongs to a Princess Alexandra Hospital nurse who had been vaccinated against coronavirus.

Chief Health Officer Doctor Jeanette Young said: "She's only had the first dose, so it usually takes a week after the first dose before you get a significant degree of immunity.

"Then you need to have a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine three weeks later and it takes another week after that.

"If it's the AstraZeneca, you need to get that second dose 12 weeks after the first dose and it takes another week after that.

"So she hadn't had a chance yet to have full immunity."

After genomic testing was completed, it was confirmed the nurse has the same strain as another PA Hospital nurse who tested positive earlier in the week.

But the focus is on whether the nurse worked on the same ward as the first one.

Chief Health Officer Doctor Jeanette Young said during a press conference: "She was tested as part of the asymptomatic screening testing process for that ward and was found to be positive.

"She has since developed some symptoms, but she was part of that testing.

"So we just need to work out how she got it...she had been vaccinated prior to working that shift."

It's unclear whether the three-day lockdown that was brought in for Greater Brisbane will be extended.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she will address Queenslanders tomorrow (April 1) to explain what the rules and restrictions will be over the Easter long weekend.
