Robert Irwin has celebrated a major milestone by paying tribute to his late dad Steve.

The second youngest member of the Irwin family recently passed his driving test and proudly posed for a picture showing off his red P plates.

The 17-year-old captioned the snap: "Passed my driving test! My first solo drive was a super special one - took my dad's old Ute to see Grace in the hospital right after she was born."

Of course, the Grace he's referring to is his newborn niece, with his big sister Bindi Irwin and her husband Chandler Powell welcoming their first baby daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, into the world just last week.

With the past few days being a busy day of celebrations for the Irwin clan, new mum Bindi was just as excited for her baby brother, posting in the comments: "So proud of you!!!"

Fans also took to Robert's Instagram comments to congratulate him on passing his driving test.

One user wrote: "Well done, now you and your dads truck can make new memories."

Another added: "Congrats on passing and congrats on being a new uncle!"

It seems that learning to drive in the Croc Hunter's ute is a family tradition, with Bindi also learning the rules of the road in her dad's car and taking the test in the beloved ute back in 2016.

She wrote at the time: "Thank you so much to Constable Joshua Little and Queensland Police for testing me today and giving me my license. It was wonderful to take my test in St George and pass the first time and in my Dad's giant old ute!"

The world was excited when Bindi announced she had given birth.

Her little brother Robert gushed over the newest member of the Irwin family, speaking of his joy of becoming an uncle alongside an adorable photograph of himself cradling the tiny tot.

"Let the uncle adventures begin!" he wrote.

"Love you so much, Grace. This little one picked the two best parents in the entire world.

"The most incredible, caring and strong Mum... and the funnest, coolest and kindest Dad.

"Love you three so much - I can't wait for this exciting journey ahead!"
