Singapore Is Reopening Its Borders To Australians From Next Week

Everyone except Victoria...

Singapore has become one of the first countries that Australians will be able to travel to when our border restrictions are eased.

The southeast Asian country is relaxing its rules around who can and can't come in and Australia is on the list.

Singapore has already thrown open the doors to Brunei and New Zealand tourists and now it believes Australia is safe enough for citizens to come over for a visit.

Sadly, their ruling doesn't include Victoria due to the second wave of coronavirus cases it is experiencing, however it's hoped residents in the state will be allowed once that's well and truly over.

People wanting to head there will be able to do so next week from October 8.

Travellers will have to undergo a Covid-19 test before entry to ensure they're not carrying the virus, they will have to travel on a direct flight (as in not go through a third country) and download a mobile app for contact tracing.

After all that, you're good to soak up the good times - although you will be required to self-isolate wherever you're staying while you await the results of your Covid-19 test, and you'll only be allowed out of quarantine if it's negative.

Of course, Australians won't be able to just hop on a plane and go on a holiday. The government is still restricting travel to everywhere in the world due to the ongoing pandemic and the only way you're able to leave our sunny shores is by having a specific reason that fits on their list of approved reasons.

What is edging closer though is the Trans-Tasman bubble between Australia and New Zealand.

Prime Ministers Scott Morrison and Jacinda Ardern hope it will be in place before the end of the year, however it all depends on how the pandemic plays out.

At the moment, it looks like Kiwis will be able to fly across the ditch before Australians can do the same.

New South Wales and Northern Territory will be the first two states that Kiwis will be permitted to fly into and it's hoped the list of states and territories will grow when they ease border restrictions.

Mr Morrison told 5AA radio station: "We'll be able to move on that very soon. New Zealanders being able to travel to Australia - that's good for Australian tourism."

Ms Ardern added to AAP: "There is a chance that we could have Australia simply open to New Zealand because of our status and where we are right now, which is pretty good."
