Sizzler devastated people all across Australia when it announced it would be permanently shutting its doors.

The remaining nine restaurants (five in Queensland, three in Perth and one in NSW) will close by November 15 and the decision is expected to affect around 600 workers.

But just before they fade into the annals of history, they have given us a parting gift.

The recipe to their iconic cheese bread has been released and it's dead easy, with Sizzler's Don Crilly told 7NEWS: "It's two simple ingredients."

You'll need to start with your thick sliced white bread, then get some pecorino cheese and margarine.

You combine 'equal amounts of margarine with pecorino cheese and mix to create a paste' and then spread that on the bread.

Crilly says you should cook it on your frying pan 'on a low to medium heat for about 60 seconds' and when it's golden brown it's ready to eat.

The restaurant chain announced last month that the coronavirus pandemic was the final nail in the coffin and they made the tough decision to close their doors.

Collins Foods hopes to be able to redeploy some of the hundreds of employees to its KFC and Taco Bell restaurants and offices.

In a statement to the ASX, the company said: "Of the three restaurant brands that Collins Foods operates, Sizzler has been hardest hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"As a casual dining concept, and unlike Collins Foods' KFC and Taco Bell restaurants, Sizzler revenues and earnings have been slow to recover from peak COVID-19 impacts."

The Sizzler restaurants in Australia were extremely popular in the 2000s because of its salad bar and delicious steaks. Collins Foods' CEO, Drew O'Malley said it was truly a sad day for the company and for the fans of the food.

He explained: "This has been a difficult decision for Collins Foods, especially given the impact it will have on our dedicated Sizzler employees and customers in Australia.

"The ongoing impact of COVID-19 on revenues has meant that unfortunately, these restaurants have not established a clear path to profitability in the foreseeable future."
