"Your father was a garbage man and you became the trash of society...you deserve to be buried in a landfill."

A court in New Zealand has this week heard from victims and relatives of those killed in last year's devastating Christchurch terror attack.

Brenton Tarrant has plead guilty to 51 charges of murder, 40 counts of attempted murder and one of engaging in a terrorist act laid under the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002.

Dozens of people have come forward to explain to Justice Cameron Mander how the events of March 15 changed and shaped their lives, which will be taken into account during sentencing.

But one impact statement has attracted attention for being so bold.

Ahad Nabi donned a New Zealand Warriors rugby league jersey as he read out his statement in the High Court at Christchurch. His father and mosque elder Haji Mohemmed Daoud Nabi was one of the 51 victims of the shooting.

Ahad stared directly at Tarrant and didn't hold back.

He said: "Your father was a garbage man and you became the trash of society... you deserve to be buried in a landfill.

"You hurt my father, but you never took him away from me - what I mean by this is that you physically hurt but you gifted my father with becoming a martyr. Your actions on that day displayed what a coward you are... you shot at defenceless people... your actions were of gutless character.

"There's nothing heroic about shooting people from behind and people not having a chance of defending themselves."

Tarrant was found to have produced a manifesto before the attack last year, where he espoused racist and anti-immigrant rhetoric.

But Ahad shot that 74-page document down and said Tarrant would never see his hopes realised.

Mr Nabi said to Tarrant: "A peasant like you will never change the human race. Your wish is to make this world a racist cult of one colour but you'll never succeed.

"I ask that he be put in mainstream prison and stop wasting taxpayer money by giving him special protection.

"Coming back to this maggot, my 71-year-old dad would have broke you in half if you challenged him to a fight. But you are weak - a sheep with a wolf's jacket on for only ten minutes of your whole life."

Not only did Ahad give the 29-year-old Australian national two middle fingers, but he also walked out of court and called him a 'piece of s***'.

He is one of around 70 people who are giving impact statements.

They will all be weighed up to determine what type of sentence Tarrant should receive, which is expected to be handed down later this year.
