A Sydney dessert cafe has ruffled feathers after declaring they would not be forcing staff to wear face masks amid the pandemic.

Love Crepe, based in the suburb of Drummoyne, said on social media they believed as they believe it to be a 'crime against humanity'.

"Love Crepe believes that being forced to wear a mask is a crime against humanity," the now-deleted Instagram post read, which immediately attracted a myriad of divisive comments.

"Fully support you guys," one user commented, while another wrote: "this can't be for real surely?"

Despite deleting the post, Love Crepe then posted another message to thank people for their 'support'.

"Wow! What a response! Thank you to everyone that responded to our stories," the caption began.

"We live in a difficult world full of evil and hate, divided by anger. Let's all come together and make this world a better place by focusing on what's really important.⠀

"Love crepe wants to send you a message: LOVE IS THE MESSAGE We appreciate your support and the love you've shown us. We will continue to put your and our staff's health first always, including mental wellbeing."

The company was met with major backlash after they announced their controversial plan on social media in a post that took aim at Sydney's mandatory mask-wearing order, which includes hospitality workers.

The owner of Love Crepes, Nick Kondilis, later posted a video apologising to staff members for using their photo alongside the original post, saying 'it has nothing to do with them'.

He also apologised to anyone who may have been 'offended' by the post.

Kondilis opened Love Crepe in 2016 in Pyrmont making crepes with traditional Greek family recipes, before moving the store to Drummoyne.

Face masks are now mandatory in some indoor settings across Greater Sydney as a COVID-19 cluster that originated in the Northern Beaches continues to grow throughout Sydney.

LADbible has reached out to Love Crepe management for comment.
