The coronavirus pandemic is still front of mind for many Australians, especially those in Melbourne who have returned to Stage 3 lockdown.

Some feel like it's a distant memory and have returned to doing things they normally would have done pre-pandemic, like lining up to enter a building.

The Golden Sheaf Hotel in Sydney's Double Bay is a popular spot for people wanting a tipple on a Wednesday night. Lines going several metres back from the front door was a regular sight before March, however things have certainly changed since then.

Which is why people were perplexed to see how many people were treating last night (Wednesday, July 8) as a normal night at The Sheaf.

A picture uploaded to social media shows dozens of people lining up to get in without socially distancing from one another.

It's a pertinent question considering just how quickly things went from fine to bad to worse in Victoria.

A spokesperson for The Golden Sheaf has released a statement to news.com.au, saying it takes the NSW Health guidelines 'seriously' and they will be introducing new measures to ensure this type of scene doesn't happen again.

"We take the safety of our guests and staff very seriously, which is why we will now be taking bookings only on Wednesday nights from 8pm and we will be employing extra staff and security to ensure social distancing is adhered to and we have a maximum of 20 people in our queues at any one time," the statement said.

"We employ management and security staff to monitor queues constantly - at the Golden Sheaf last night we worked immediately with police to disperse the crowd and ensure social distancing measures were established.

"It is the collective responsibility of all staff, guests, operators and authorities to ensure the safety of each other."

Earlier this month, venues in New South Wales were allowed to ditch the 50 person limit and instead adhere to the one person per four square metre rule. It permitted larger venues to welcome more patrons and ensure their business could get back up and running.

Customers were still required to sit down while they were inside the establishment and all tables have to be spaced out by 1.5 metres each.
