A Sydney high school has been evacuated after a Year 7 student tested positive for the coronavirus.

The diagnosis comes just one day after students in New South Wales returned to school full-time.

Waverley College, in Sydney's eastern suburbs, has confirmed that the campus has sent everyone home in an orderly fashion.

A Waverley College spokeswoman said: "The school is very prepared for this, being [in] a coronavirus hotspot." She added that they had been preparing how to deal with this kind of situation 'for months'.

A representative has told the Daily Telegraph that the school will be closed for 'some time' as the campus undergoes a deep clean.

Close friends of the potentially infected student are in the process of being contacted and will all be required to isolate and get tested.
