A teenager in Pakistan has died after he was involved in a tragic prank for a video on his TikTok account.

The man, known only as Hamidullah according to News Corp, was trying to film a clip that involved putting a handgun to his head and pulling the trigger.

The 19-year-old was shooting the video in the country's Swat Valley and tragedy struck when the teen moved the weapon.

Hamidullah placed the gun on his head and 'died on the spot'.

A senior police officer investigating the teen's death told AFP: "This boy was pretending to commit suicide with a loaded pistol. He put the gun on his head and then it suddenly misfired."

"The unfortunate youngster died on the spot as he was directly hit in the head. There was no chance of survival."

He was described as a 'rising star' on the social media app and had garnered 8,000 followers since joining.

Another awful twist in the case was that the video Hamidullah filmed somehow managed to end up on TikTok.

It's unknown how long the horrifying clip was on TikTok or how many people viewed it before it was taken down.

A spokesperson for the app said they rushed to scrub the video from their archives when they learned it was being circulated.

"At TikTok, we have no higher priority than protecting the safety of our community, and content that promotes or glorifies dangerous behavior is strictly prohibited and promptly removed to prevent it from becoming a trend on our platform," an earlier statement from TikTok read.

"We also block related hashtags and searches to discourage people from participating in or sharing potentially dangerous content."
