The Chaser Got Suspended From Twitter For Pretending To Be Donald Trump

America is on a knife edge as voting is underway for the 2020 Presidential election.

Naturally, social media is awash with plenty of pundits claiming what they think will happen when booths close.

But if you followed the Australian comedy group The Chaser on Twitter, you might have been confused to see Donald Trump tweeting out messages.

Twitter

The hilarious troupe changed their Twitter name and profile picture yesterday as voting got underway and they pretended to be the Commander in Chief. The only thing that would have alerted users to the fact it wasn't actually Donald Trump was their handle, which still had @chaser.

Their first tweet pretending to be the leader of the free world was at 9:26pm AEST, saying: "Don't vote for me, I'm a massive idiot."

Twitter acted quickly and removed The Chaser's blue verification tick, which prompted another message from The Chaser in true Trump form of: "THEY TOOK OUR TICK."

But the social media site upped the ante and suspended the whole account.

People couldn't believe what they were seeing.

While any person would be upset at having their account pulled from Twitter, The Chaser couldn't be happier.

The Chaser's website editor Cam Smith said in a statement: "We understand why twitter would do this. After all, it would not be out of the ordinary for Trump to tweet something so outlandish.

"If anything this would have been one of his more reasonable tweets, so we could see how people might get mixed up."

"It's impressive that twitter only took 20 minutes to unverify our tweet - given it took them almost four years to start fact checking the actual President. I guess that's to be expected though, we all know comedians words are much more dangerous than those of the guy who controls 50% of the world's nukes."

Savage.

The Chaser have always waded into political scandals when they got a chance, once dressing as Osama bin Laden outside the hotel of President George W. Bush in 2007.
