The UK government will welcome 25,000 refugees from Afghanistan following the Taliban's takeover of the country.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said 5,000 people will be eligible to be resettled in Britain during the first year of the program, with women and girls given priority status.
People deemed to be at the highest risk of human rights abuses and dehumanising treatment by the Taliban will also be accepted as a priority.

The additional 20,000 refugees will be admitted to the UK in the 'long term'.
While announcing the Afghan Citizens' Resettlement Scheme, Prime Minister Johnson said the UK owed it to the people of Afghanistan to help them in their time of need.

"We owe a debt of gratitude to all those who have worked with us to make Afghanistan a better place over the last twenty years.
"Many of them, particularly women, are now in urgent need of our help. I am proud that the UK has been able to put in place this route to help them and their families live safely in the UK."
Home Secretary Priti Patel added: "The UK Government will always stand by those in the world in their hour of need when fleeing persecution or oppression.
"I want to ensure that as a nation we do everything possible to provide support to the most vulnerable fleeing Afghanistan so they can start a new life in safety in the UK, away from the tyranny and oppression they now face."

The scheme is similar to the one the UK employed during the Syrian Civil War when it accepted 20,000 refugees escaping persecution over a seven-year period from 2014.
The rehoming 25,000 refugees is on top of the 5,000 Afghan interpreters and other staff who worked for the UK during its 20 year war under the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy.
Two thousand people have already been permitted to resettle in Britain under that scheme.

The UK government will work with local councils and devolved governments on where to place the Afghan refugees once they arrive into Britain.
The BBC says government ministers aren't entirely sure how the process of bringing refugees from Afghanistan will work.
It's unclear how much control the Taliban will have over people in the country and whether they will monitor who leaves.
The Taliban has promised to be a more modern organisation and has asked asked the world to trust they will let women partake in society under Sharia law.
