TikTok User Sparks Fury After Making Fairy Bread With Peanut Butter

We've all tinkered with a time-honoured recipe, trying to put our own unique twist on our favourite foods. But some things are sacred - and now an American TikTok user has sparked fury in Australia for promoting a fairy bread recipe that's made with peanut butter.

First, some context - ask most Australians and they'll tell you that at one time or another they've eaten fairy bread.

It's a pretty basic meal that consists of white bread and butter with hundreds and thousands sprinkled over the top. Nothing fancy, nothing bougie. Just sprinkles, bread and butter.

But Beau Coffron decided to not only use fancy sprinkles but also peanut butter.

We're all for ringing the changes, but the social media user says this specific style of fairy bread is really popular in New Zealand and Australia.

Reacting to the vision on Reddit, one person said: "I'm f***ing triggered by this cultural appropriation."

Another added: "Someone call 000 I just witnessed a murder."

A third wrote: "It's very early in my day and yet I'm confident this is the worst thing I will see today. Just no."

According to the Hobart Mercury, fairy bread has been around in Australia since the 1920s, so you can understand why some people might be a little protective over it.

But this isn't the first time an American TikTok user has gone viral for trying to show people how to make a certain type of food or drink more commonly associated with another country.

An American woman called Michelle, who goes by the handle of @jchelle36 on TikTok, decided to share a tutorial video showing the world how to make a nice cup of 'hot tea' or 'British tea'.

Accompanied by her daughter, the clip shows Michelle - who lives in the UK and has more than 166,000 followers on TikTok - filling a mug with water from the tap and popping it into the microwave for a minute.

Her daughter then pours an inordinate amount of milk into the mug of, er, microwaved water, before dropping in the teabag.

"Add the sugar!" Michelle says in the voiceover, while her daughter pours approximately an entire packet of the sweet stuff into the mug.

"Give it a little stir, and that's how you make hot tea!"

Understandably, tea drinkers felt pretty stung by the video, which was also shared on Twitter and soon racked up nearly 5,000 retweets.
