Ahead of US President-Elect Joe Biden and his family heading to the White House, the Biden family's rescue dog, Major, is also set to receive an 'indoguration' of his very own.

Major, a German Shepherd, was adopted by Joe and Jill Biden from the Delaware Humane Association (DHA) in Wilmington back in November 2018.

The very good boy will be the first-ever shelter dog to reside at the White House, and he will also be joined by the Biden's other dog, Champ.

Cory Topel, a marketing manager at DHA, told CBS News back in November that the future President's four-legged friend was smart, curious and an affectionate 'sweetheart.'

He said: "Having played a part in Major Biden's story is an honour. This is what we strive for when animals come into our care: to help them find their happy ending."

In celebration of his pawsome achievement in becoming the first-ever shelter pup to become First Dog, Major's former home is hosting an 'Indoguration' via Zoom in the hopes to raise money for other shelter dogs like Major.

DHA is calling it 'the world's largest virtual party for dogs,' with the event set to be hosted by television personality and author Jill Martin and attended by special guest Sir Darius Brown, a 14-year-old entrepreneur and animal advocate.

Sir Darius said that prior to the event, participants can even nominate their pooches to be part of Major's Cabinet as the 'Secretary of Rescue Dogs,' with Brown choosing the winner.

"From shelter pup at the Delaware Humane Association to First Dog at the White House, Major Biden is barking proof that every dog can live the American dream," the shelter wrote in a newsletter. DHA is asking for a donation of $10 or more to join the event, with all proceeds going to the shelter.

The event - which will no doubt be off the leash - will take place on Sunday, January 17 at 3 pm ET (that's Monday, January 18 at 7 a.m. for those Down Under).

President Donald Trump broke a century-old tradition by becoming the first resident of the White House not to own a pet since 1897.

During a rally in Texas last year, Trump explained his choice, saying: "I wouldn't mind having one, honestly, but I don't have any time. How would I look walking a dog on the White House lawn?"
