Kim Kardashian has been asked to stop campaigning for a death row inmate to be spared his execution.

The reality TV star and aspiring lawyer has been working hard to get Brandon Bernard's death sentence overturned. He is due to be executed on Thursday (11 December) at the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana via lethal injection.

Several appeals have all failed in getting the execution overturned or delayed.

Bernard was sentenced to death for his role in a violent robbery that was carried out by a group of friends. He was just 18 at the time of the offence, which made him the youngest person sentenced to death in America in the past several decades.

The group kidnapped Todd and Stacie Bagley, married youth pastors, and shot them in the head before placing them in a car that was set on fire.

Bernard's lawyers tried to claim that he didn't personally shoot them, however he did put their bodies in the car. They have also been trying to get the death sentence overturned due to how he has turned his life around in prison and is also a father.

The appeal gained more attention when Kardashian started talking about the case on social media and tried to get her followers to campaign to Donald Trump for a presidential pardon.

She wrote on Twitter: "If executed tomorrow, Brandon will die having never been able to touch his children. All his visits with them have been behind glass, though this has not deterred him from being the best father he can be from prison."

However, a family member of one of the victims has hit back against Kardashian for not taking into account the hurt that Bernard caused.

Stacie's stepsister Dana Ladd has told TMZ: "I want her to think about if it was one of her children that Bernard did that to - would she feel differently? It's easy for people to say things when they don't have similar experiences.

"Bernard was able to see his family through glass, but we'll never be able to see Stacie anymore. He has a daughter - what would he think if someone did that to his daughter?"

Todd's mother added in a statement: "Please remember the victims and their families whose lives have been shattered and are still trying to cope."

Kardashian has released a statement that seemingly responded to the criticism.

"My heart breaks for everyone involved, including the victims' families and in no way am I diminishing the loss their family has been through," she wrote.

"I stand by what I have always said, I can empathise and feel pain for the victims and their families. Killing Brandon will not bring them back and I believe in my heart of hearts killing him isn't right. What Brandon did was wrong, but killing him won't make things right."

Three other people involved in the murder of Stacie and Todd Bagley were given lengthy prison sentences due to being under the age of 18 at the time of the offence, while Christopher Vialva, who pulled the trigger, was executed in September.
